Dec 12, 2023 · The annual Geostrategic Outlook presents analysis by the EY Geostrategic Business Group (GBG) on the global political risk environment in the year ahead. To select the top 10 geopolitical developments in the 2024 Geostrategic Outlook, the GBG first conducted a crowdsourced horizon scanning exercise to identify potential political risks. By constructing firm-level panel data that combine financial information with data on geopolitical risk and patenting activity, we find that geopolitical risk exerts a negative impact on firms’ innovation activity through increased external financing costs and by reducing firms’ willingness to raise capital.
